Autograph Hound

by Mike
(Kenosha, WI)

So, what exactly is an autograph hound? I hear celebrities refer to autograph hounds in a disparaging way now and then.

Rob:
An autograph hound is basically someone who is trying to get celebrity autographs for the sole purpose of selling them. They might sell them directly themselves, or to dealers. Similar to a freelance photographer, for instance, the better the autograph, the more they likely will get paid.

Athletes and celebrities are uncanny in spotting professional autograph hounds in crowds! Yeah, they get tricked now and then or just sign anyway, but I have seen many times where multiple celebrities will refuse to sign for the same one or two people in a crowd!

I have somewhat mixed feelings about autograph hounds as they are good at what they do, and frankly get some pretty good autographs that most of us might not get. As long as they are courteous and respectful, then cool.
