Autographed Baseball Cards Worth Less?
No, that autographed baseball card you have is not worthless. It's just worth less than if it were unsigned. Confused?
Here's the deal - die-hard baseball card collectors are not autograph collectors! They want the card to be in mint condition, meaning no flaws, creases, and blemishes. A signature would be considered a blemish and would make the baseball card worth less! Hard to believe for us die-hard autograph collectors, isn't it!?
"But why are autographed baseball cards worth less?"
Like autographs, a baseball card's value is derived from important criteria such as the demand for the card (rookie card or special edition), scarcity, and overall condition. Older cards are scrutinized closely on the quality of the picture and production, if the picture is centered, etc. This is not much of a concern with newer cards and the incredible technology used today. Cards that are signed for the manufacturer as special inserts are obviously the exception to the rule! I also like that baseball card companies are catering more to autograph and memorabilia collectors with the randomly inserted autographed cards and memorabilia card with pieces of a game-used jersey or bat.
