Collecting celebrity autographs, and celebrity memorabilia is a fun and exciting hobby that continues to be popular today.
Movie premieres provide fans an opportunity to get famous celebrity signatures, but they can be challenging situations.
Depending on the popularity of the person, autograph collectors have been known to camp out the night before (or more!) for a prime location by the red carpet.

Golf tournaments Pro-Am's, usually on Wednesdays. In my experience, Bill Murray is a tough signer.
The day I was there, he wouldn't sign any items that were related to his legendary role in the movie "Caddyshack" and he insisted on personalizing (see more on that below) everything he did sign.
Celebrity book signings events are excellent opportunities to meet famous authors, many of them you would have difficulty meeting in-person otherwise. There are numerous ways to contact celebrities and collectors use a variety of these methods in order to be successful at celebrity autograph collecting.
I have found requesting autographs through the mail ( TTM ) to be an effective, and cost-efficient way of collecting celebrity autographs.
Frankly, with the steady increase in autograph values, I wonder why more haven't embraced the approach of the sports memorabilia industry by offering authentic and officially licensed signed memorabilia through manufacturers like athletes do.

Personalized celebrity autographs are more meaningful to many autograph collectors, who are in the hobby for the fun and enjoyment it brings, and not for pure investment purposes. When an autograph is personalized, or inscribed to a specific person, the value normally will be less. Athletes and celebrities understand this, and many will only sign with an inscription. I have had success asking for the personalization when I first request the autograph as a strategy to engage them and make them more willing to sign for me. This strategy works both in-person and when
collecting autographs through the mail.

It makes your request stand out, and shows you are a true fan or collector, and not just looking to make a quick profit. Keep in mind that celebrities are pros at spotting phony autograph requests from people who are just looking to make a quick dollar by selling the item. Big name celebrities get inundated by autograph requests, so most do try to do their best to sign for their fans before someone they expect might be an autograph dealer, or working for one. Try it out and let me know your autograph successes! |

Who knows, maybe that will change as demand continues to
grow...Before writing a letter, I'll perform an actor search on Google
or Wikipedia to read the bio information in order to write a short but compelling letter to the person briefly describing my admiration for them and requesting an autograph.

Years ago, autographs were obtained in autograph books, while these days autographed photos and signed movie posters are highly sought after collectibles.
I like to display the signed celebrity autographed photos I get in-person or through the mail in matted and framed displays.
Many autograph collections have been built on getting signed celebrity photos from their favorite stars of the big screen, sports, music - you name it!
You can find good autograph frames at your local picture and framing store. Be sure the matting is acid-free so the signature won't fade over time, since the matte is the only object the photo should touch - never the glass.
If the photograph is touching the glass, the ink can run into the glass over time, fading the autograph from the photo surface.
Hang the frame out of direct sunlight, as ultraviolet rays can also damage your collection and cause fading. Even fluorescent light can cause damage, so my best advice is to keep any of your celebrity signed photos out of direct light to be on the safe side.
You can easily store autographed photos that you aren't going to frame in a 3-ring binder with good quality UV protected sheets to keep them in.
