Personalized celebrity autographs are more meaningful to many autograph collectors, who are in the hobby for the fun and enjoyment it brings, and not for pure investment purposes.

When an autograph is personalized, or inscribed to a specific person, the value normally will be less. Athletes and celebrities understand this, and many will only sign with an inscription.

I have had success asking for the personalization when I first request the autograph as a strategy to engage them and make them more willing to sign for me.

This strategy works in-person or through the mail. It makes your request stand out, and shows you are a true fan or collector, and not looking to make a quick profit.
